An Update from OpOverwatch

OpOverwatch is a Law Enforcement Trauma Resiliency Ministry seeking to normalize trauma’s effect and walk through it as a community. The post traumatic stress effects of trauma on an officer and combat veteran are normal reactions to abnormal life circumstances. At OpOverwatch, we understand the benefits of normalizing the body’s response to trauma and understanding that it is not a disorder.

We approach trauma resiliency through four strategic paths: Benevolence, Outreach, Edification, and Training. We have seen God’s faithfulness in each of these areas repeatedly since our beginning in 2019.

Benevolence is the opportunity to give love and care to officers as individuals and entire departments. Each December we reach officers who’ve encountered severe trauma with the OpOverwatch “Shop for a Cop” program, providing over 140 baskets to date. We also reach entire departments with our Benevolence Packages, of which over 1500 have been delivered since 2020. For officers that require much needed rest amidst chaos because of an on-duty injury, we provide meals delivered by other law enforcement families in our community.

Throughout the year we plan and host events for law enforcement and their families that are completely free. We create environments by which peer relationships can be built, designed around food, family, fun, and the testimonies of fellow officers. Some of our most notable events include our Fall Festival in September, our Christmas in The Corral event in December, the Spring Craft Show, and bi-annual OpOverwatch Banquet.

Edification is the Biblical and Christ-centered portion of the ministry. This is available to an officer who desires to know more about faith in Jesus Christ. We believe that a growing knowledge of Christ, through Biblical truth, is the foundation of true hope and peace for an officer. OpOverwatch participants can choose to engage in a variety of edifying activities that center on an understanding of a Biblical world view, and the transformational power of knowing Jesus Christ.

OpOverwatch leadership has years of classroom and field service experience to law enforcement. Every Wednesday we run our OpOverwatch Trauma Restructure (OTR). These are extremely relevant and raw conversations amongst officers, combat vets, corrections, and dispatch, with the goal of normalizing trauma’s effect. We have also added a Wives OTR for the wives of law enforcement officers to discuss and normalize trauma’s effect on the family. Check out our website for the next date and time.

We are so grateful to experience God’s faithfulness to these law enforcement officers through answered prayers, unexpected outcomes, and the resources He has given us to make a life-saving difference in the lives of others.
