An Update from Fellowship of Christian Athletes
I find myself undone by God’s faithfulness because of how I have seen Him move through the ministry of Fellowship of Christian Athletes (FCA). In Psalm 37:25 (BSB), King David writes, “I once was young and now am old, yet never have I seen the righteous abandoned or their children begging for bread.” Not only has God provided for my family to live as missionaries, He has done far more than I could have ever asked or imagined in the lives of athletes and coaches across our city.
One athlete didn’t know much about the Bible when he joined FCA. As time went on, he started wearing Jesus shirts at his sports events. After a few years he accepted our challenge to invite a friend to FCA, a friend who he had been praying for every day for 6 months. His friend joined our program and the two athletes started walking through the Core (an FCA discipleship book) together. About halfway through, our FCA athlete led his friend in a prayer to receive Christ. I’ll never forget the feeling I had watching this great athlete, a new believer, literally jump for joy when we gave him his first Bible!
Another athlete saw an FCA flyer at The Chapel one day as he walked out of service with his family. He got involved in our Training Camp and completely devoured the content. He then started a Bible study with 60 athletes at his house and started sharing Bible verses every day on his Instagram. As time went on, God gave him an online platform to share the gospel daily with over 20,000 followers!
Another athlete grew up in church and youth group, but had never made a commitment to follow Jesus. When he got to see his heroes from the Buffalo Bills talk about Jesus at our events, he gave his life to the Lord.
Not only has God been faithful to bring athletes to Himself, but He has also been faithful to bring me closer to Him. Romans 8:28-29a (NIV) says, “And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose. For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the image of his Son.” I will never be the same because of these years serving Him.
